Take a look at pledge responses from past PROJECT BLACKBIRD events. Â
The Blackbird Journal
One page. One truth. One message of hope.
At every Project Blackbird event, we close the same way: each person writes one honest thing and one hopeful thing. Shared anonymously, with permission, so someone else feels a little less alone.
One thing I struggle with…
I struggle when it comes to asking for help. I'm the oldest sibling and have always been in charge of keeping everything under control. There have been times when I knew I needed help, but shame didn't let me. Asking for help and trusting people is my biggest struggle.
My message of hope…
Live every stage of your life without pressuring anything. Don't let shame and vulnerability make decisions for you.
One thing I struggle with…
As of right now, I struggle with putting myself first before others. I don't prioritize my needs and wants out of fear of disapproval or hurting others.
My message of hope…
It's okay to say no. It's okay to be a little selfish. It will keep your true supporters close. At the end of the day, it will only be you.
One thing I struggle with…
One thing I struggle with is abandonment and being alone. Being abandoned triggers me to feel empty, even though I know I am not alone.
My message of hope…
Learn to love yourself, not only the inside but all around. Walk around comfortable in your own skin.
One thing I struggle with…
Wanting to seek help, whether mentally or physically, when I need it. I also struggle with shutting down when I'm not mentally doing well.
My message of hope…
As long as you are trying and actually want to get better, you are already making progress. Developing that thought process sets you up for future betterment. You've got this.
One thing I struggle with…
One thing I struggle with is that everything I do is not enough.
My message of hope…
To the person who's reading this: don't be afraid to ask for help.
One thing I struggle with…
Getting my feelings out. When I go to say them, nothing comes out. After being hurt so many times, it's hard to stand up for myself because I think, "What if I make them feel what I felt?"
My message of hope…
I'm a junior in college and still sometimes have trouble managing, but it doesn't stop your future goals and self.
